FIRST STAMPS OF THE WORLD – Canton of Zurich, Switzerland
The third country to issue stamps was Switzerland. The canton of Zurich issued the so called “Zurich 4 stamp” on 1. March 1843. Actually two other cantons (Geneva & Basel) in Switzerland issued stamps before the next country, USA, came along.
FIRST STAMPS OF THE WORLD – BRAZIL
As earlier shown the British ”One Penny Black” was the first stamp of the world when it was issued on 6. May 1840. The second country to issue stamps was Brazil. On 1. August 1843 Brazil issued three so called Bull`s Eyes stamps. Here the 30 Real stamp is shown.

Remember from yesterday that the cost of sending a letter on 1. July 1923 was 300 M. Just 80 days later, on the 20. September, the cost has risen to 250.000 M which is the denomination of this stamp that was issued on 22. September 1923.

GERMAN OCCUPATION OF SERBIA IN 1941-1943
This block was issued in Mai 1943 to help Serbian war invalids. It is very valuable in cancelled condition with a CV of 8.000 €. Unfortunately this copy is not approved by an expert and thus the value is much less.
EMPIRE FOUNDATION CELEBRATION.
This beautiful 5 Reichsmark stamp from Germany (1900) show the Empire foundation celebrations (Reichsgründungsgedenkfeier) on a painting painted by William Pape (1859-1920). CV is 500 € and it was sold for 105 €.

MERINO SHEEP on stamp from Argentina 1936. This beautiful definitive stamp was issued to celebrate a special niche in Argentinian agriculture – the production of wool from Merino sheep.
