Norway’s postal service dates from 1647, when Christian IV of Denmark-Norway gave a concession to a private company, which established the Postal Service. The postal service primarily gave various parts of the country the opportunity to communicate with the central government in Christiania.
Norway issued its first postage stamp, a 4 skilling blue stamp featuring Norway’s coat of arms, on January 1, 1855. Although sought after by collectors today, this first stamp was not well received at the time due to the many flaws in its printing. Todays stamp is a rare copy of Norways first stamt. CV is 4.000 euro.
