UNIVERSAL POSTAL UNION: Jordan
Jordan (The Hashemite Kingdom of the Jordan) celebrated the 75th anniversary of the Universal Postal Union in 1949. They did so by issuing a stamp depicting the Globe with a letter, a train and a passenger ship. Todays stamp is the 20 MILS issue from 1949. Jordan adopted the Jordanian dinar in 1949. In the West Bank, the Palestine pound continued to circulate until 1950, when the West Bank was annexed by Jordan, and the Jordanian dinar became legal tender. The mill (American English) or mil (Commonwealth English, except Canada) is a unit of currency (sometimes symbolized as ₥), used in several countries as one-thousandth of the base unit. So the face value of todays stamp must be 20/1.000 of a Dinar.
